How to Measure Your Neck

Use a soft measuring tape and wrap it around the base of your neck where a collar would sit. That measurement is your base neck size. Most necklaces are designed to hang below that point, so add the desired drop length to find your ideal necklace length.

If you don't have a measuring tape, use a piece of string, mark it, then measure it against a ruler.

Tips for Choosing the Right Length

• For everyday pendants, 16" or 18" is the sweet spot. The pendant sits beautifully and works with most necklines.
• For layering — Choose necklaces that differ by at least 2" so they don't tangle. A 16" + 18" + 20" combination is a classic.
• For V-necks and open necklines — A longer necklace (18"–20") follows the neckline naturally and looks intentional.
• For crew necks and turtlenecks — Go longer (20"+) so the necklace has room to show.
• For statement pendants — Keep the chain shorter (16"–18") so the pendant sits prominently and doesn't get lost.
