WHAT ARE "BLOOD DIAMONDS," AKA BLOOD DIAMONDS?

Because of civil unrest in African regions in the 1990s, rebel armies exploited diamond mines and fields to fund their wars against established governments, putting people and the environment in the middle of their conflicts. The workers in these areas were often very young. They became subject to inconceivable working conditions, with some losing their lives or limbs due to the terrible conditions and treatment. Thus, blood diamonds began to describe these types of gems to highlight the ultimate sacrifice these innocent people had to endure.

KIMBERLEY COMPLIANT AND AMERICA'S PATRIOT AC

The Kimberley Process Certification Scheme (KPCS) was founded to certify the origin of rough diamonds from sources known to be conflict-free. First adopted by southern African diamond-producing countries in 2000, the United Nations later adopted the established guidelines for the KPCS. The process includes tracking diamonds from their place of origin to delivery. Polished diamonds sold in the US must adhere to the Patriot Act, which requires that every US dealer maintains Kimberley's

compliance or be subject to penalties from Homeland Security, the US Justice Department, and the US Treasury. It is a requirement by law and a necessity for our moral standards.
